The officers and members of the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad regret to announce the passing of Life Member/Past Chief George J. Gatton, Jr. George was a dedicated member of our Rescue Squad and served as Chief from 2003-2010, among various other positions he held throughout the years.

Funeral arrangements are actively being made and will be shared once finalized. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during these trying times.

75 Years of the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad

Chief Christy Leach, December 28

The Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad was established in 1949 making it the first Rescue Squad in St. Mary’s County. The first ambulance was kept at Camp Brown in Scotland, Maryland and various other locations in the Ridge area. Upon completion of the American Legion Post 255 building in the early 1950’s, the Rescue Squad operated its ambulances from there.

On Saturday, December 14th, 2024, the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad held its 75th Annual Installation of Officers.  It was held at the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, with a delicious meal catered by the RVFD Auxiliary.  This year’s event proved to be very special for a few of our members, but especially for our organization as a whole. 75 years of service is a HUGE milestone, and it was made known ... No Caption Citizens and First Responders Save 71-Year-Old Bicyclist with CPR After Suffering Medical Emergency

Multiple 911 callers reported a male, who was described as 60 to 65 years old, fell of his bicycle and was unconscious with citizens performing chest compressions.

Prior to the arrival of First Responders, 911 callers reported citizens were performing CPR again after stopping.

Caddy on display

We took our 1972 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Ambulance out to the "Cars & Coffee" car show on Sunday. This is a Bi-Weekly event and it was our first event for the 2024 season with the Caddy. It was a HOT day but everyone loved seeing this Living piece of St. Mary's history.
We will be taking the Caddy out again on the 4th of July (Wildewood parade) and then again on the 13th of July (Wreaths Across America). ... (Full Story & Photos)

Pax Air Museum with Optimus Prime and BumbleBee

On November 8th, 2023 the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad was given a huge honor of Escorting Optimus Prime (#Optimus Is Here) and BumbleBee into St. Mary's County with Ambulance 499, Four St. Mary's Sheriff's Officers, Second District Engine 61, Dave's Peterbuilt truck and PJ's Towing Heavy Wrecker. Optimus Prime was recharging at the Second District Fire Department.

RVRS sends our condolences to the family and friends of Stanley Williams, past chief and past president of Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad and retired longtime Department of Emergency Services employee, who passed last weekend.
